Our founders

Matthieu RUPIN, PhD
Co-founder and Technical Director
Matthieu holds a PhD in applied physics from the Université Joseph Fourier, Grenoble I, France (specializing in waves in complex media).
He spent almost 10 years as an R&D engineer and then technical director in a start-up company, after pursuing his academic career with two post-doctoral assignments at Liphy at Grenoble Alpes University and the Langevin Institute (ESPCI PARISTECH). Matthieu now heads up R&D at VIBRA NOVA.

David RICHARD
Co-founder and CEO
David graduated as an engineer at INP Grenoble, specializing in electronics and semiconductors,
with a Masters in Entrepreneurship from Grenoble Ecole de Management. With 25 years' experience in marketing, business development and innovation in management positions in international high-tech environments, he also has solid technological experience, from components to complex systems.

Soledad COMMISSO, PhD
Co-founder, Industrialization Director
Soledad’s mission is to take haptics technology from laboratory innovation to industrial-scale production.
Her expertise lies at the intersection of materials science and digital simulation, combining acoustics, mechanics, soft and hard materials, piezoelectrics and embedded systems. Soledad holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering, and has also spent several years as a researcher and associate professor at engineering schools in Lyon (INSA Lyon and ECAM Lyon). Soledad is now actively involved in R&D at VIBRA NOVA.
Vibra Nova's mission
VIBRA NOVA is a deeptech startup founded in March 2024 by David Richard, Matthieu Rupin, Soledad Commisso and 4 non-operational co-founders. Its mission is to develop its ultrasonic surface haptics technology to integrated it into tomorrow’s HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces) used in automotive, industrial, consumer and medical applications. Created with all the assets of previous startup hap2U, it aims at setting a new standard for tactile haptics. The 15 people team made of experts in acoustics, tribology, material science, electronics and UX, constantly pushes the limits of this technology.
A deeptech start-up to revolutionize haptics
The company currently holds 19 families of patents. Its technology is based on ultrasonic vibrations applied under a screen surface by piezoelectric actuators which create a vibrating touch panel. These vibrations are confined, ensure a uniform intensity and are coupled to a capacitive sensor that detects the position of the finger, generating precise and realistic haptic feedback.
Patented tactile technology
VIBRA NOVA’s technology has reached the highest technological maturity levels (TRL), being ready for production.
Notable advances include the creation of haptic feedback for OLED screens, the precise localisation of haptic effects, the integration of its technology into LCD screens for the automotive industry and the development of mechanical haptic buttons without integrated mechanism. These innovations pave the way for numerous industrial and commercial applications.
Developments are carried on to provide new features and further technology improvements.
